Bariloche and the Lake District vista

Undeniably one of the most visually stunning areas in Argentina, the famous Lake District offers a whole host of activities and experiences that will suit everyone in the family in some way of another. This region, furthermore, is the home of adventure activities in Argentina and, as such offers activities such as white water rafting, fly fishing, horse riding, skiing and much, much more. To only stay for a couple of nights does it an injustice in our opinion!

Located on the northern shores of the Nahuel Huapi Lake and National Park, the every growing town of Bariloche is usually the starting point for any trip. Within a half hour’s drive to the ski resorts, as well as having the national park on its door leave it in a very privileged position but, in our opinion, it is worth looking slightly further afield to really get the best of what is on offer.

To the east of the town is the Llao Llao peninsular, a small but untouched area of dense woodland and outstanding views. The highlight of this area is definitely the hotel, the Llao Llao, and its private golf course that sweeps out to the horizon on all sides. The hotel is also to a very high standard and has long been the place of choice for the wealthier families in Argentina.

To the north of Bariloche the small towns of Villa la Angostura and San Martin de Los Andes remind of how Bariloche once was…a peaceful and Alpine village, with a main high street and picturesque views out onto the lakes. Our pick of the two would be the scenic Villa La Angostura for its utter tranquility and the range of activities that surround it, but San Martin also offers a similar range and is also slightly closer to Lanin National Park which is well worth a visit.

On the whole, this area has such a large range of activities and options that it is usually worth having a chat with one of our consultants as to what it is exactly that you are after. One very popular itinerary is to drive from Bariloche up to San Martin and back again. The road is truly outstanding and at every turn there is something to do or see.
