Review

The second hotel owned by Inkatera in Aguas Calientes, El Mapi is a modern and contemporary hotel in the centre of town. Providing good value, comfortable accommodation, El Mapi is ideal for an overnight stop before or after visiting Machu Picchu.

Positioned just off the main square in Aguas Calientes, or Machu Picchu Pueblo, as it is now called, El Mapi is in the heart of Aguas Calientes and just a short walk from the train station and bus stop to catch the bus up to Machu Picchu. Being in the centre of town does mean that this hotel isn’t as quiet as its sister property, Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo, which may need thinking about if you’re a light sleeper.

The hotel’s 122 rooms and 8 suites are divided into four blocks, which look out over the town. Rooms are light and airy and are decorated in a contemporary style with crisp white bed linen, pale wooden furniture and modern fitted bathrooms. For those looking for more space or families, the suites have a separate living area with a sofa bed.

Facilities include a restaurant serving organic food grown in the hotel’s orchard, which is open from 4am for those early starters wanting to visit Machu Picchu at first light, a sociable bar area and a gift shop. The hotel is also in the process of building a Spa, which will be ready in 2017.

Ideal for an overnight stop.

Busy central location.
