Review

Our pick of the hotels in Arequipa, the Casa Andina Private Collection Hotel is a five to ten minute walk from the main square and some of the best restaurants in town. Although the rooms are fairly standard in size and decor, the setting of the hotel and the friendly service more than makes up for this. Brimming with history and character the hotel occupies an eighteenth century colonial mansion, which was once the Casa de la Moneda.

The Casa Andina Private Collection is located on Calle Ugarte in Arequipa’s historical centre. Just a short walk from the Santa Catalina Convent, the Plaza de Armas and the pretty Plaza San Francisco, the hotel is conveniently located for exploring all that Arequipa has to offer. The hotel is also less than a five minute walk away from some of the best restaurants in town, including Chicha and Zig Zag.

Reasonably small in size, the hotel has 40 rooms, including two suites and an imperial suite. The suites are located in the old part of the house, while the remaining rooms are spread out over four floors in the hotel’s modern wing and overlook the pretty internal courtyard. Rooms are reasonable in size and come with dark wooden furniture and either a king-size bed or two queen beds. All come with satellite TVs, coffee and tea making facilities and mini-bar.
Restricted by the building's heritage, the hotel doesn't feature many additional features, which may disappoint those who are used to having a wide range of facilities available. The original part of the hotel includes a large lobby/lounge area that leads off to the hotel’s reception, computer centre and restaurant. With so many restaurants near by, it's not necessary to eat in the hotel, but there is a reasonably good menu serving international cuisine with traditional dishes from Arequipa.

In the mornings, a buffet breakfast is served in the internal courtyard, accompanied by a local harpist. There is also a massage room and dry sauna and a sun terrace on the fourth floor of the hotel with great views over Arequipa to the Misti Volcano and the Cathedral.

Walking distance from centre, plenty of colonial charm.

Fewer facilities, some rooms feel dark.
