Country Combinations

Uruguay

An often overlooked combination with Argentina, Uruguay has plenty to offer

Situated right on the north eastern border of the country, Uruguay is a very simple place to visit from Argentina and has a long tradition of being a holiday destination for many of the “Portenos” from Buenos Aires. The old town of Colonia is a mere ferry ride away from the capital and so is often included by those that are spending a few nights here, exploring the area. For those that are after a little beach time then the famous town of Punta del Este is certainly worth considering.

Squashed by its much larger and more powerful neighbours, Uruguay is often overlooked as a destination in its own right and is accordingly only seen as a destination to head to if you are looking for a little R&R after a linger trip to Argentina or Chile. It does, however, hold quite a few hidden secrets that are well worth taking a little time to dig up.

Colonia:

A small, 17th century town opposite Buenos Aires, Colonia is a perfect places to spend a night or two soaking up the quaint feel to the place and experiencing a town that is still bringing itself up to date.

Montevideo:

The capital of the country is, today a vibrant place to head to for a few days of re-energising with good cuisine and accommodation becoming the norm. In February the Uruguayans host their version of the carnival that is a vibrant and exciting time to visit.

Punta del Este:

This famous town is the original haunt for those in Argentina that want to show off their wealth. While it can get rather busy in the middle of season, it is definitely the place to head to if you are looking to see and be seen with a plethora of great bars, restaurants and accommodation.

Punta del Diablo:

Far less known than Punta del Este, the Punta del Diablo is a far more rugged and wild coastline right up on the border with Brazil. There is no doubt that it has become more visited in recent years, but it is still a great alternative.
