Nestled in the northeastern corner of the Iberá Wetlands on the banks of the Paraná River, Puerto Valle is an hour’s drive from Posadas on the way to San Ignacio and Iguazú. This makes it one of the most accessible lodges for visiting the Esteros del Iberá and easy to combine with a trip to the Falls.
Set within a traditional 19th century estancia which has been recently refurbished to create a beautiful boutique hotel with 13 guest suites, all with views of the river. This includes 5 colonial-style rooms in the original estancia building and 8 modern deluxe suites which are a new addition to the property and are less traditional in style with Scandanavian style furniture and large windows looking out at the Rio Paraná.
There is also a very good restaurant serving delicious fresh produce from the hotel’s organic garden, a swimming pool overlooking the flooded Paraná river and 14 hectares of grounds to explore.
The main attraction of Puerto Valle however is the wildlife, with chances to see caiman, otters, capybara, marsh deer and over 350 species of birds on guided river excursions and activities in the forests around the river Paraná and Iberá wetlands. Activities include river boat excursions, kayaking, horse riding and forest trails while dedicated birdwatching and fly fishing programs are also available.
