Luxury South America Honeymoon
Luxury South America Honeymoon
Our guide to where to go and what to do for your South America honeymoon
For couples looking for that extra special trip, a South America honeymoon has much to offer. Whether you’re attracted by the superb beaches, breathtaking nature or vibrant culture, South America has it all. Add to this beautiful properties offering exceptional service and you have the recipe for a perfect honeymoon.
Due to the size and scope of destinations within South America, the wealth of information can seem overwhelming. In this section, we have tried to simplify things and give you an overview of the types of things to consider before planning your honeymoon.
Logistics
In countries as vast as those in South America, it is important to decide on how many places you would like to visit as part of your holiday and what your main priorities are. The cost of internal flights within South America is often higher than most people expect (due to the large distances involved) and can use up a large proportion of your budget before you’ve even started, if you haven’t factored these in.
If you intend to visit more than one country in South America then there are certain combinations which work better than others. For a few ideas of how you can combine different areas of the continent, please have a look at our country combinations page and itinerary finder… some of the options may surprise you!
Activities
Also worth considering before you start planning your trip, is what you want to get out of your South America honeymoon. For example, do you want to see as much as possible while you're there or would you prefer to visit two of three destinations and spend time relaxing in each destination? With so many different activities on offer ranging from vibrant culture and food through to eye-opening nature and wildlife and fantastic beaches, we would suggest prioritising what you would like to do most rather than trying to cover everything... after all you can always come back for another visit!
Timing
Few people want to spend their honeymoon in the cold and rain, unless you’re going to ski, so it’s worth thinking about which season you’re travelling in before you book. This becomes more complicated as you travel between countries and climates but in general, the season for travel to Antarctica, Argentina, Chile and Southern Brazil runs between September and the end of April, for Peru and Central Brazil between April and October and for Colombia the dry season runs between December and March or between June and August.
The busiest months for travel to South America are generally between December and February, with availability being hardest to find around Christmas, New Year and Carnival, which takes place in February. If you’re planning to travel around this time, we would recommend starting to look at things early to avoid disappointment and finding that you can’t have the itinerary that you would like. Just to give you an idea, Antarctica cruises can be booked up more than a year in advance so it’s never too early to start looking at things!
Budget
Probably one of the most important factors in any trip, budget will determine how many places you can visit and the type of accommodation you go for. Apart from the cost of international and domestic flights which can be expensive, we believe South America offers excellent value for money, especially in terms of the level of accommodation you can get for your money. While luxury, no-expense spared options do exist, for those wanting to stick to a budget, there is also an abundance of good-quality boutique hotels or guesthouses which offer exceptional value for money.
It is worth remembering for Colombia, however, that it is still developing its tourism industry and, while there are some fantastic hotels in Bogotá and Cartagena, some of the accommodation elsewhere can be considered to be more ‘authentic’ than internationally high end.
For those who are looking for a bit of help with the costs of their honeymoon, we have recently started to work with a specialist honeymoon list company called “Buy Our Honeymoon”.
Unlike many of the honeymoon list companies out there, they work on a single payment process where you pay a one off set of fee of around £30 (discounted for our clients), you can have your own Paypal account for your guests to pay directly in to, and you will also have a fully functioning web page that guests can go to and see your itinerary along with buying any of the options through the site. Guests can then contribute towards the cost of excursions and day-trips, offering an alternative to the traditional wedding gift list. For further information on this please ask your consultant for details.
Tailormaking your Honeymoon
With the above details in mind, we would then suggest having a chat with you about what you are looking to get out of your South America honeymoon. Are you looking to go kayaking in Antarctic waters or sip Malbec in Argentina's Mendoza? Have you got your heart set on stargazing in Chile's Atacama Desert? Are you looking to explore the ancient archaeological sites of Peru? Or would you prefer to spend your days lazing on beautiful white sandy beaches in Brazil? or Colombia? Whatever it is that you are interested in we will be able to talk you through how it would fit into an itinerary and combine with other areas in South America.
Having personally visited the top hotels in all of the regions we sell and with trusted local contacts on the ground to ensure that every aspect of your honeymoon runs as smoothly as possible, we are in a perfect position to help you make your decisions. We have spent years eating the food, speaking to staff, heading out on activities ourselves and, of course, sending clients to these locations. We wouldn’t sell these destinations if we weren’t absolutely sure that they can offer you a superb honeymoon experience.
With this in mind, we have put together a few further reading links for you to get started with; our favourite honeymoon hotels, the range of activities South America has to offer, when to travel and a few of our South America honeymoon itineraries.
If, on the other hand, you feel like it’s all too much information and you’d prefer to have someone talk you through the options, then give us a call at any time or send us an email, we’ll be more than happy to help.
