Location
Explora Rapa Nui is 10km outside of Hanga Roa, Easter Island’s only town and airport; so transfer times are little more than 15 mins. The property lies of a private plot (over 2,000 acres), that in keeping with their ethos of respecting the indigenous culture, has no agricultural or archaeological significance. Indeed, the hotel is LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The location is ideal for easy access to explore the whole island.
Layout
The 2-storey hotel has been thoughtfully designed to blend in perfectly to its environment, with local volcanic rock and Chilean wood being the chief materials. The accommodation wings spread either side of the main building, which houses reception, the bar & restaurant and the artisanal store. The explora Spa includes outdoor Jacuzzis and swimming pool, with views to the rugged south-east coast and Pacific ocean; plus a massage room.
Rooms
Explora Rapa Nui has 30 rooms, divided into two categories – 26 Varúa Rooms and 4 Raa Suites. All accommodation provides ocean-views, air-conditioning and private bathrooms with a jetted bathtub. The only significant difference between the two categories is size: Varúa Rooms are 32m² and the Suites are 44m².
Features
As mentioned, the hotel has a Spa, the Explorer’s Bar and a wonderful restaurant. What we feel really sets Explora Rapa Nui apart is the extensive number of activities offered. With over 30 different ‘explorations’ provided by their expert guides, guests are spoiled for choice!
Furthermore, they also cater for different levels of fitness and experience – meaning you can enjoy the hikes, bike-rides and even snorkelling and SCUBA diving, all at your own pace.
