Similar in concept to that of the nearby Casa Real, the La Casona at Matetic offers superb accommodation in an absolutely delightful setting, while also being a stone’s throw from one of Chile’s finest vineyards. Located just of the main road through to Valparaiso, the Matetic vineyard has become famous the world over for the fantastic, organic wines that it produces. The Casona is the perfect way to spend a leisurely couple of days, walking through the vines or relaxing by the pool with a glass in hand!

At approximately a 2 hour drive from the city, it is still possible to visit the winery for the afternoon and return, but we would certainly recommend a stay in the beautiful and secluded La Casona Matetic.

Originally built over a hundred years old as an estancia, the property of today has received a facelift in order to bring it into the 21st century….this has not, however, meant that any of the charm or history of the place has been lost at all.

The main areas of Matetic have a rustic charm to them with plenty of comfortable chairs in which to recline and read a good book. The bedrooms, likewise, have a simple and comfortable air to them, with soft mattresses and wooden furniture being the overall order of the day.

Outside, the Casona Matetic has a series of well maintained gardens, lakes and, of course, the vineyard in which to explore. Along with the wine activities (tastings, and tours) Matetic also has a great swimming pool and fabulous menu that will get anyone’s mouth watering.

On the whole, this is a superb choice for those that are looking to take in a bit of the winelands before moving on and exploring Valpairaso and the coast.

Matetic is fabulous. Service, wine, food and the rooms very good. If you go to Matetic, ask for rooms Malbec or Sauvignon Blanc as they are bigger with extra patio. The trips to other wineries were great choices: very high quality wines and wine-making, well informed guides and excellent lunches. (I used to work in wine - and travel!) Matetic is the place we would return to and would like to have stayed another couple of days. Such beautiful gardens, full of birds. Also saw a fox.

The wine tasting at La Casona is a great place to relax after a long travel from Europe to Santiago. The day tour to Valpariaso was really quite nice and informative, and having a private guide, it did not feel we missed anything by not staying there overnight.

Matetic vineyard was lovely, dinner amazing, sampled their many wines. Incidentally, Tierra Atacama used their wine for house wine, so we were familiar with them by then. Weather was foggy and cool but the property looks to be spectacular with sun.

Matetic, fabulous, wonderful setting, great atmosphere, excellent food and wines, really enjoyed the walk around the vines and learning about the biodiversity of the operation.

Before visiting the property, I was skeptical as to the high-end quality based on their website . However, the experience surpassed my expectations.
