Review

There is no doubt that when the Arakur Hotel was conceived, it was to ruffle the feathers of the other high end properties of the region and to try and challenge the Alpine style of the competition. The imposing granite and copper structure sits atop the hills at the edge of town, looking down across the bay to the Beagle Channel. This is certainly a building of some presence and the interior is no less powerful!

Location

Sitting atop the hills to the east of the town, the location of the hotel affords stunning views from throughout the building, bedrooms, pools and dining areas and is probably its main selling point. Some could argue that being set outside of the town means requiring to use the shuttle service to get into and out of town but, in Ushuaia this is nothing new and so is not really a negative for us…particularly when the views are that stunning!

Rooms

Constructed to the highest specifications throughout the building, 80% of the rooms are sea facing with large, picture windows and views to the Beagle Channel. They all have very well appointed bathrooms and are well lit and heated (which is not all that surprising given the amount of natural gas that sits underneath the region!)

Layout

You enter the building on what is, effectively, the first floor of the building and are greeted by a vast corridor of the dark grey stone from which the building is made. From here you go either up to the bedrooms or down to the swimming pool and dining facilities. The swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzis are arguably afforded the best location in the property with full 270 degree views out across the Beagle, the town and the southern Andes mountains.

The allocation of space in the building would probably be the main downside for us with all of the bedrooms, swimming pool/sauna and long hallways being given plenty of space while the dining area down below is small and feels relatively crammed.

Features

As the name suggests, the hotel has a full indoor/outdoor swimming pool, indoor/outdoor jacuzzis and spa facilities to indulge in during your stay. With exceptional views out across the region, the location has certainly been made the most of.

Location and facilities.

It could be argued that style has outweighed the allocation of space
