La Cantera

Location

A fifteen minute walk from the main street in El Calafate, Hotel La Cantera is built into the hillside a few blocks up from the centre. While we didn’t think the hotel’s location was that special, being quite close to a big supermarket and accessed via an unpaved road, it’s not a deal breaker as the hotel offers a shuttle service into town in the evenings.

Layout

The hotel is made up of two rectangular buildings which are built into the hillside. The lower building is where the standard mountain view rooms are located and the building directly above houses the hotel’s bar and lobby as well as the superior lake view rooms.

Rooms

The rooms are comfortable and cosy with large windows to make the most of the views and tasteful décor. Both standard and superior rooms come with a queen-size or twin beds and hydro massage bathtubs.

Features

As already mentioned, the hotel has its own shuttle service to take guests into town in the evenings or can accommodate guests in their restaurant which serves traditional Patagonian fare. The hotel has an outdoor terrace and a library/sitting room where guests can sit and take in the views.
