On the way into the city centre is the Hotel Ayres de Salta, one of a new breed of hotel opening up in Salta, featuring contemporary design and a more chic concept. On the whole the hotel works although, while modern and contemporary in the main areas, they have not really carried the same through to the rooms in our opinion. With a little more work, this could become a great hotel…at the moment, we would argue that there are better.

On first glance, the Hotel Ayres de Salta is a hotel that offers a lot. Located in a great area of the city, within walking of the main square and the surrounding sites, it could not be better placed. As you walk into the light and fresh lobby, you are greeted with a slick and well-designed lounge running through to a modern and funky looking restaurant at the back that overlooks a small, manicured garden.

Unfortunately, however, this is where the praise starts to dry up. The restaurant does serve good food and the atmosphere is certainly one of trendy modernism, however, this does not then continue through to the rooms themselves. The bedrooms are yet to be re-vamped and so are still looking dated and lacking in charm. They have been equipped with everything that you could ask for in the hotel of its calibre, but, as with many hotels that look good on paper, there is a certain something missing.

On the whole, we felt that the Hotel Ayres de Salta has plenty of swagger, but lacks in substance.
