On the whole, this hotel provides is a good compromise between price and location. La Cantera will appeal to clients looking to keep costs down but stay somewhere more interesting than in town. This is a good recommendation if your budget doesn’t stretch their budget to at nearby Loi Suites or the Sheraton Hotel within the confines of the falls National Park.

Location

A key plus point for us is the property setting within the “600 Hectares” area of which the hotel occupies 3 hectares. Here you are not far from the town centre and can enjoy the novelty of a jungle setting. Coming from a big city, you may well find that you’ve got your own spot of paradise surroundings with loads of rosewood and other tree species, which are said to be around 400 years old! The property is set at a comfortable distance from a main road, which sees the majority of traffic heading into and out of Iguazu town.

Rooms

The layout of the property is interesting with the premium rooms giving you more privacy and space. Some of the standard rooms on the other hand are laid out in a line and give you the feel that you are staying in a motel with not much thought put into it. The premium rooms however, are found in 2 story wooden cabanas with high ceilings meaning steep stairs with no lift… no fun if you are carrying a lot of baggage as there is no bellboy service here! We think it’s worth upgrading to a premium room as the price jump isn’t so steep and in return you will have a Jacuzzi in your bathroom or private balcony as standard, a well priced minibar and more space to move around.

Layout

As mentioned above, some of the rooms are set a distance from the main communal areas but, in particular, the premium rooms are well spaced and give a good feeling of the surrounding forest.

Features

The hotel has a good swimming pool and has a restaurant that serves reasonable food although, for those that are wanting a little more, the hotel makes it easy for their guests to get into town with a few courtesy shuttle van services per day.

Feedback

La Cantera Lodge was nice. We felt that the photos online made it look more luxurious than it actually was, but we really enjoyed the pool and restaurant there. I ultimately wanted to feel like we were in the jungle, and I was still happy to feel that way. The falls are just incredible! We enjoyed every second of seeing them. At first I wasn’t sure if we should bother going to the Brazilian side (since we had to pay for visas, etc) but it was so worth it!!

We liked this hotel very much. It was different from anywhere else we have ever been, for sure! It was nice to have a swimming pool too and air conditioning in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. The highlight was that on the 2nd night we discovered we had dinner included! :) We'd give it 4.8 on trip advisor.

Room was nice, large. Again very helpful staff. Common parts of the hotel were quite shabby. Food during the day was terrible, but lovely in the evening. Well located for the falls.

service and staff at la cantera were brilliant. The location and setting was lovely in the jungle. The organised trip to see the Falls was very good and all the guides were really friendly and knowledgeable. Food was not great at the hotel.
