Horse Riding Holidays in Argentina
Every Argentine learns how to ride from an early age...
Argentina is a nation obsessed with its horses and it is no wonder that many of the best polo players come from here. Growing up with stories of the gauchos and their wandering ways, every Argentine has had horses and riding woven into their fabric from an early age. Combining this knowledge and experience with the outstanding natural and rugged beauty of Argentina, and you get a riders heaven.
While most places in Argentina have access to horses and countryside, there are not that many places, as either an intermediate or and expert, that you can head to in order to get some really good riding. The main area that really specialises in their riding is in the central region, around the city of Cordoba, or, alternatively, in the Pampas area that surrounds Buenos Aires.
One big plus of riding in Argentina is that, where riding elsewhere can be a little orthodox, the horses in Argentina have all been schooled with work in mind and to be used by gauchos and others who need to have a spare hand in order to manipulate gates and cattle. This means that most of the horses are very responsive to a single hand and, where European horses need plenty of encouragement to turn, the horses of Argentina react in a flash, making the whole process that much more fun!
One of the favourite itineraries that we have found people enjoy is to go an on a four or five day ride up into the Andes range which makes you feel truly like an adventurer of old and gives access to views that no one else can see.
