Estancia El Colibri is the top of the pile, both for price and for the level of comfort. Unlike the other two estancias in the Cordoba region, the building was purpose built for tourism and so it has allowed them to pull all the stops out. Also unlike the other two, the estancia is located in the valley and not up in the hills, but it is afford great views back to them so, as the sun sets, you can watch the change of colour.

The concept is that the Estancia El Colibri has been built along the lines of a working estancia and they have even gone to the trouble of building all of the machinery etc to give it that feel…but they tell me that they don’t use it (like the sheep to truck loading ramps).

The rooms are a mixture of different types with suites and small, self enclosed apartments on offer. The interiors are also of a very high standard and all of them have a surround sound systems for those evenings when you want to lie in bed watching a good film!

The main areas of El Colibri are also well constructed and have a real charm to them with the traditional wooden block floors being used and an excellent outside reclining area and dining area available.

As with all of the Relais & Chateau properties, the Estancia offers something slightly different. They are very proud of their polo (partly as the owner is an ex-professional himself) and they have two pitches where they occasionally host major tournaments, and they also offer polo lessons….which are a real novelty. We have read comments saying that, as the owners are French, that the estancia is, basically, a French country home away from France. We can understand what they are saying, but this is still very much Argentina.

The main draw to spending a few nights in the Estancia El Colibri would be to have a location where everyone can go off and do their own things…which makes this the perfect property for a family and couples alike. The food and service is to an very high standard and, with a fantastic spa and other facilities, it is a great choice.
