The homely and inviting “Estancia La Bandada” (they have recently changed their name from La Candelaria del Monte) is one of the new genre of Estancia that has started to come to the fore on the southern fringes of Buenos Aires. Rather than offering the traditional ‘estancia’ type experience where you are given a ‘parilla’ barbeque and shown a gaucho horse display, the onus here is on relaxation and taking in the surrounding countryside. This is very much aiming at the start or end of your trip where you may want a couple of nights to relax in a farmhouse feel, go for a walk or ride in the countryside and lounge by the pool.

Location

Located approximately an hour’s drive to the south of Buenos Aires one of the biggest selling points of being out of the city is that you are able to retire from the bustle of the city while also being within an hour of the International Airport so making coming off your flight or getting onto it that much more relaxed than making your way through the gridlock of modern Buenos Aires.

Rooms

Adapted from a traditional style farmhouse, Estancia La Bandada offers a wide range of simple but very comfortable rooms to choose from in the property. As is mentioned above, the aim here is to make you feel like you are at a home from home where dining is communal and the main areas, the lounge, the covered patio and the swimming pool are all inviting places to unwind.

Layout

Set in 200 hectares of working farmland the main house at La Bandada is the central focus with the rooms, the main lounge and dining room fronted by a long covered patio that looks out across manicured lawns to the woodland and fields beyond. With the surrounding of trees you are afforded a very intimate and protected feel regardless of the weather.

Features

Featuring stunning and comfortable interiors and a relaxed, spacious feel, the property is what we would call understated charm. There is certainly a faded elegance to the pool area which features a columned pool house. Offering horse riding as well as walking this is not somewhere for the overly active but what they do they do very well with exceptional home cooking and a very good wine selection on offer.

Lovely quiet setting well positioned far back off the road .It was about 1 hour and 20 minutes from BA .

Staff very friendly and some spoke English .Food was good as was the wine .They had a great menagerie of peacocks , hems , turkeys ,goats ,swell as many horses and lamas! The birdlife was excellent and we enjoyed plodding around on the horses too.
