Family Holidays to Brazil
What to think about when planning a family holiday to Brazil...
The size of Brazil and the variety of places to visit, is the main thing to bear in mind when planning a family holiday to Brazil. With nature, adventure, beaches and fascinating cities, there’s something to suit every family and indeed, every member of the family! From a timing point of view, Brazil is also a year-round good-weather destination, making it a perfect option for European and North American families planning their summer holidays.
The beauty of most of the destinations and itineraries on offer in Brazil is that they combine a variety of different interests, so if someone wants to go off and do activities and another person wants to relax by the hotel swimming pool, that is all possible, making it easy to keep everyone happy at the same time.
Two of Brazil’s main nature and wildlife destinations, the Pantanal and the Southern Amazon Rainforest, are best visited between the months of June and September, coinciding with the European and North American summer vacation period. With a variety of daily activities ranging from 4x4 safaris, to jaguar spotting and fishing for piranhas in the Pantanal, to kayaking and spotting rare birds and monkeys in the canopy of the Amazon rainforest, visiting these areas is guaranteed to get kids interested and involved.
For older families, the drum orchestra beat-filled streets of Salvador and the impressive displays of groups practicing capoeira will definitely appeal, while the vibrant sights and sounds of Rio de Janeiro have more than enough to occupy anyone and everyone for at least a few days! The beauty of these two cities is that they are based on the coast so the morning can be spent sight-seeing and the afternoon lazing on the beach.
If it’s beaches and water sports you’re looking for, then Brazil’s coastline is filled with resorts and beach destinations, providing not only access to spectacular beaches, but a whole range of activities including surfing, paddle-boarding, snorkelling and diving, not to mention, horse riding and golf. Trancoso, Búzios, Paraty and Florianópolis all have plenty going on in the evenings, with restaurants, cafés, cultural festivals and, because it’s Brazil, lots of live music!
For families with younger children, many of the hotels and pousadas offer care and babysitting facilities, giving parents a bit of time to themselves to explore and relax on their own, knowing the children are being well looked after and supervised. Often this service is offered free of charge, which is a definite bonus. It is also usually possible to accommodate families in larger or interconnecting rooms, giving you much more space and room to be a family. Some of the hotels offer villas or bungalow accommodation, equipped with books, games and wifi, which again, is helpful when you’re a family and want to have a bit of your own space.
