Wine and the Northwest
A visit to some of the least visited but best loved areas of Argentina
An itinerary that features some of the least visited regions of the country, this is for those that are a little more adventurous and are looking to get off the beaten track. Starting in the elegant Club Tapiz, in the heart of the wine region, for a few days of great wine and food, you are then whisked up to the old provincial capital of Salta, in the Argentine northwest, and area steeped in incan and indian history and tradition. This entire region is dry and packed up against the Andes, featuring some of the most incredible rock formations and scenic driving.
Make your way to Buenos Aires
Fly to Buenos Aires international airport and met on arrival.
Mendoza and the winelands
Met and transferred to the domestic airport in time for the flight to Mendoza, the centre of the Argentine wine growing district. Met on arrival and transferred to the superb Club Tapiz to stay for 3 nights on a B&B basis. Using the hotel as your base you will have the time to take in some of the food and wine of this great region. the hotel itself is a fantastic option as it is set right in its own vines, with a superb restaurant and swimming pool…you need not leave!
Salta City
Transferred to the airport in time for the flight up to Salta, in the Argentine northwest. Met on arrival and transferred to the the Design Suites to stay for the next 2 nights on a B&B basis. Salta is a city that is steeped in indigenous culture and has a few of the country's oldest buildings and squares at its heart. You have a couple of days to wander through the friendly streets, particularly recommended is a visit to the MAAM museum just on the main square, which houses a great display of artefacts from Incan times. - includes a city tour on day 4
Cachi Village
This morning you will be met by your private driver-guide for the start of the southern driving circuit that takes you through a range of different sceneries and experiences. The start of the itinerary takes you south from Salta and up into the high Andes, through to the small village of Cachi. This stunning drive starts by winding its way through cloud forest and sheer sided cliffs. From this lush scenery you then come out to the Andean plateau and, just before the village, the Los Cardones National Park, with mile upon mile of giant cacti! The small village is an idyllic example of how life has continued for generations and is the perfect stopping place for the night.
Cafayate Town
Continuing on your driving itinerary, you wind your way back down from Cachi through some of the most stunning rock formations and subsistence, Adobe brick villages. The drive is one of total exploration, along dusty roads that are infrequently used by cars or people. Along the way it is highly recommended to stop and see some of the traditional weaving that the local communities practise to a very high standard. As you reach tarmac again, you enter the valley of Cafayate, one of the driest places on earth, and the home of the Torrontes grape in Argentina, a sweet and refreshing wine. Your next night is spent at the fantastic Vinas de Cafayate..a simple but spectacular hotel that looks out across the valley.
The Iguazu Falls
Transferred to the airport for the flight to Iguazu. Met on arrival and transferred to the Loi Suites to stay for 2 nights on a B&B basis. Set in virgin rainforest, the Loi Suites are definitely the pick of the hotels in the region, and is ideal for exploring the falls and the beautiful virgin rainforest of the province. - includes a full day at the Argentine side of the falls
Buenos Aires
Fly from Iguazu back to Buenos Aires to be met and transferred to the Nuss Hotel to stay for 3 nights on a B&B basis. Located in the Palermo district of the city, you are right in the heart of the most vibrant area, with plenty of interesting shops, small squares and coffee houses. In such a vibrant and exciting city there are plenty of activities to occupy your time such as a Tango show or looking at the many interesting buildings dotted around the city.
Fly home
Met and transferred to the International Airport to connect onto your international flights home.
